FLUF World Creator’s Corner — Fairfields AKA Tom Lee

You’ve heard the name. You’ve heard the sounds. And you’re waiting eagerly in anticipation for the full track of Run Rabbit in the works as we speak….

Shake no more!

Well, keep shaking. But while you do, we thought we’d connect with the man himself to give you some insight into his world, inspiration and what he’s most excited about in FLUF World.

Welcome to the musical mayhem of Fairfields.

If you’ve been living under some mycelium, or hibernating in your burrow, Tom Lee AKA Fairfields is a force to be reckoned with. Half of NZ Drum & Bass duo LEE MVTTHEWS, Tom’s been a high flyer on the local and international DnB scene for close to a decade.

From plays by industry heavyweights like Andy C, Sub Focus, Netsky, Metrik, Grafix, Dirtyphonics, K-Motionz, DC Breaks & Hybrid Minds, to supporting international talent at festivals across the country, it’s safe to say Tom’s cemented his legacy as one of NZ’s foremost electronic artists and producers.

As diverse as he is accomplished, Tom’s musical tastes span rock in his earlier years as an aspiring guitarist, to catching the electronic music bug in his teens, which led him to a production course at MAINZ. This is something he attributes his success to; a period in his life where he was exposed to different styles, broadening his musical palette while experimenting creatively and developing a true love for the production process. Today, he listens to and produces a broad range of music, taking inspiration from other artists, art forms and the industry he loves.

With all of this said, when it came to bringing FLUF World to life musically, Tom was first on our list.

As Fairfields, Tom was given a simple brief he ran with confidently. Each track had to be 32 seconds and 120 BPM. The rest was up to him. Tom was given a keyword on each scene then set to work. Starting with either an original riff, vocal line, or a flipped sample from Splice, his creative process saw him add layers of complexity until each track was polished and perfectly synced to a Fluf’s movements! With over 30 of these incredible tunes already reverberating throughout burrows in FLUF World and more on the way, our Fluffle are loving the vibe.

For Tom, NFTs are a new wave he’s stoked to be part of. With a steady collection growing, and the ability to now say he’s pioneering metaverse musicality in a major way, he’s excited for the integration between the physical and digital worlds and what this could mean for music.

This is something that inspired ‘Fairfields’, his latest pseudonym, through which he engages in personal projects like FLUF World. For Tom, it’s important these are things he believes in, whether it’s an innovative blockchain project, collaboration with another artist, or advertising.

Fortunately for us, his love for FLUF World runs deep. For Tom, seeing kiwis just like him venturing out into the wider digital world with a big idea in their pockets was enough to have him firmly aboard the hype train. Throw the musicality of our world, and his love for animals into the mix, and FLUF World became a no brainer.

The pleasure though, is all ours. To say we’re fizzing to have Tom on board would be the understatement of the century. He’s amazing to work with, has a true passion for pushing sonic boundaries, and we’re proud to call him our resident vibe-creator at FLUF World. We can’t wait to see what he brings to our Nimbuses next.
